Montagnana's ham (prosciutto)

Montagnana a walled town

prosciutto

Montagnana and Prosciutto (ham) Tasting

On Wednesdays

Montagnana the medieval townVisit the medieval town to know the history of the famous prosciutto (ham) crudo dolce berico-euganeo DOP.

Fortified by the Carraresi family, Montagnana's 14th-century walls are perfectly preserved. At a height of 15 to 17 metres, they run for a length of approximately 2 kilometres. The defensive wall is equipped with 24 towers and two major fortified gates, whose structures contain the Castle of San Zeno, built by Ezzelino III, of Rome, towards the middle of the 1200's.

Montagnana can be considered the ''capital of ham'', one of its traditional products. Sweet ham is produced in 16 different municipalities located between the Berici and the Euganei hills, but Montagnana represents the hub of the activity, to the point where it holds the headquarters of the consortium that oversees production of the ham.

Our guests are shown the production process of the Montagnana prosciutto and show you the entire process from fresh pork thighs to Montagnana prosciutto. Our experts lead the visitors through the spacious drying room and explain the process as they move along. We prepare first class tasting sessions for our guests, sessions that are a combination of delicious meat products dried in the Montagnana wind, home made wine and an unforgettable Montagnana atmosphere.
